What PurrHydrate is
PurrHydrate is a free website for cat owners who want to know whether their cat is drinking enough water. You can find it at justpurrhydrate.com. It has three main parts: a hydration calculator, a simple habit tracker, and plain-language guides on the signs of dehydration and practical ways to encourage drinking.
Why it exists
Cats are known for drinking very little from a bowl, and the advice online is often one generic number that ignores what the cat eats. A cat on wet food gets a large share of its water from the food itself, while a cat on dry food does not. I built PurrHydrate to make that difference easy to see, so an owner can tell what is normal for their own cat and what is worth asking a vet about.
Who runs it
PurrHydrate is an independent, solo-built project. I am not a veterinarian, and nothing on this site is veterinary advice. The site is made by a cat-care enthusiast and website builder, and it is meant as a practical starting point, not a replacement for your vet.
How the information is prepared
- The calculator uses a commonly cited general guideline of roughly 50–60 mL of total water per kilogram of body weight per day, adjusted slightly for age and for how much water your cat's food already provides. That is why results are shown as a typical range, not a single exact number.
- The guides are written as general education based on widely shared pet-care guidance. They are meant to help you notice changes and ask better questions, not to diagnose anything.
- Limits: every cat is different. Illness, pregnancy, nursing, hot weather, or a prescription diet can change how much water a cat needs. Always follow your vet's advice over any estimate on this site.
Your privacy
The calculator and tracker run in your own browser, and the tracker saves entries only on your device. You do not need an account. For the full details, see the Privacy Policy.
